Fjällräven Greenland Winter Jacket – 10 Years Later

Is this the ultimate everyday outdoor jacket?

I bought my Fjällräven Greenland Winter Jacket over a decade ago. Since then, it has followed me through snowstorms, cold hikes, forest walks, and everyday life in southern Sweden. So how does it hold up after all these years?

Let’s take a closer look at this classic winter jacket from both a practical and personal point of view.

A timeless classic that actually lasts

The Greenland Winter Jacket is a true Fjällräven icon. Originally released in the 1970s, it’s been updated with better fit and more sustainable materials – but the core design remains the same:

  • Outer shell in G-1000® fabric
Durable, water- and wind-resistant. You can wax it with Greenland Wax to boost protection in wet or windy conditions.

  • Warm teddy-fleece lining
Surprisingly cozy for such a tough-looking jacket. Works well down to -10°C with a good base layer.

  • 7-pocket layout
Includes hand pockets, chest pockets, and one inner pocket – classic and functional.

What I love after 10+ years of use

It’s built like a tank
This jacket has taken more beating than most, and still looks great. No loose threads, broken zippers, or worn-down fabric.

Perfect for everyday outdoor life
It works in the forest and in the city. Whether I’m guiding a hike, going into town, or just walking the dog, it fits right in.

Sustainable construction
Made with recycled polyester, organic cotton, and produced without PFAS – it’s a jacket you can feel good about.

Downsides? Not many – but worth mentioning

⚠️ It’s not ultra-light.
At around 1260g in size M, this isn’t a fast-and-light piece – but that’s not what it’s made for.

⚠️ Not a deep-winter expedition jacket.
While warm, it won’t replace a heavy-duty down parka. Add a layer if you’re heading into sub-zero extremes for long periods.

⚠️ Needs occasional waxing.
To maintain water resistance, you’ll need to apply Greenland Wax once in a while. I actually enjoy this – it’s part of the ritual.

Who is this jacket for?

  • You love classic design with a modern twist

  • You want a jacket that works in the city, forest, and mountains

  • You value sustainability and long-term durability

  • You prefer fleece lining over synthetic insulation or down

  • You’re tired of buying a new jacket every two winters
